None of the Wildcats’ juniors or seniors were selected in the MLB Draft over the past three days, but one of coach Spencer Allen’s newest recruits got the call Saturday.

Leo Kaplan, an outfielder from Santa Monica, California, was selected 1,106th overall in the 37th round by the Chicago White Sox. Kaplan attended Harvard-Westlake School and earned at least two varsity letters over his career, as well as the team’s Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2014 and 2015.

Before Northwestern’s 2016 season began, Kaplan was announced as one of Allen’s first class of recruits. It remains to be seen whether or not Kaplan will attend NU in the fall or sign with the White Sox.

Through Saturday’s game, Chicago sits in third place in the AL Central division with a 31-31 record, 4 games behind the first-place Cleveland Indians.

The MLB Draft took place from Thursday through Saturday over the course of 40 rounds and 1,216 picks.

UPDATE (6:29 p.m.): The program told The Daily that Kaplan will be attending Northwestern in the fall and not sign with the White Sox. Kaplan will be eligible for the MLB Draft following his junior season.

Northwestern’s top baseball player from last season is getting his chance at making the majors.

Former Wildcat Kyle Ruchim, who had been playing baseball this past season with the independent-league Schaumburg Boomers, had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox, the Boomers announced Thursday.

The Buffalo Grove native batted .306 throughout his career at NU and was named to the All-Big Ten third team in 2013. In 60 games with the Boomers, Ruchim hit .304 with 3 home runs, and now he will have a chance to advance his way through the White Sox organization.
